Former Trump attorney and fixer Michael Cohen was set to be released from Otisville Federal Correctional Institute Friday, along with other non-violent offenders, because of the danger of COVID-19 infection. Ten staffers at the prison have been diagnosed with the virus.
Cohen's compassionate release was delayed for unspecified reasons.
The previous day, Cohen had received a letter from lawyers representing the Trump Organization demanding Cohen halt writing a "tell-all book" about his time working for the president, sources told ABC News.
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Friday that the White House had “absolutely not” intervened in Mr. Cohen’s case.
"I will never lie to you," McEnany told reporters at her first White House press conference. "You have my word on that."
The White House blocked Anthony S. Fauci from testifying before the U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee investigating the coronavirus response.
Officials called it "counterproductive" for Fauci to testify, citing the urgency of his ongoing work on the pandemic.
Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, will appear before the Republican-led Senate.
